Welcome to Courage & Renewal – North Texas

Is this person the same on the inside as he or she appears to be on the outside? Children ask this about their parents, students about their teachers, employees about their supervisors, patients about their physicians and citizens about their political leaders. When the answer is yes, we relax, believing that we are in the presence of integrity and feeling secure enough to invest ourselves in the relationship and all that surrounds it.

- Parker J. Palmer

Have you ever noticed how fragile the connection is between your inner and outer lives?

Paperwork, procedures, pressure, and a constant parade of challenges slowly separate who you are from what you do. Then suddenly – after years in the classroom, pulpit or boardroom – you realize that your relationship to your work has changed.

At one time or another, each of us has needed to rediscover who we are in connection with the work we do in the world. That is the purpose of Courage & Renewal – North Texas. During the past decade, more than 5,000 North Texans have used our one-day and extended retreats to rekindle their passion for work and the commitment to serve. Our offerings enable participants to work with greater integrity – and to live fuller and richer lives.

Life is about not knowing, having to change,

taking the moment and making the best of it,

without knowing what's going to happen next.

Dear Courage Texas Network friends,

I enjoyed watching Gilda Radner's comedy when I was younger.  There was always a REAL edge to the sketches she portrayed that allowed us to laugh at life even when it may have been sad.  She displayed such courage in her battle against cancer, which she lost in the end.  But I have read that she went out dancing to the very last minute,  letting come what may.

I began this update with her words because have all wrestled with change and living in the questions.  That has been part of our culture and work from the very beginning.  And it is time for another change for this network of Courage work facilitators.

From a place of deep love for this work, this Board has worked for two years to bring the three organizations (CRNT, CRWHE, CIW) together to promote Courage work in Texas.  We have been able to bring people together in two retreats and through our social media connections on our Facebook page and LinkedIn page. It appears the work in Texas is imbedded in your own work and there is no need for this umbrella organization to fund projects. We have asked several times with little response. Therefore, we feel, as a Board, that it is time to discontinue our status as an active 501c3 organization. We do have funds remaining in our accounts to be used for Courage work in Texas. Over the next several months, we will work to distribute these funds to individuals or organizations that can engage in Courage work to benefit Texans.

The CTN Board has decided to streamline our connections even more. We want to promote sharing of resources and activities that might be of interest to others. So, we would like to encourage you to like our Facebook page or sign up through LinkedIn for Courage Texas Network and use those tools to stay connected and see what others are doing. You can share your own work on those pages so everyone can celebrate your work with you.
We are letting the webpage go (on August 28) as it is expensive to maintain and then money in our reserves can go completely toward Courage work. We have contacted Donna Bearden to make sure you can still enjoy her Mandala Messages through Facebook or send her an email and she will put you on her list of emails at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We are also planning a celebration in October of all that has been and all that will be to come. More details will come to you as soon as they are finalized and we hope you will plan to join us. Watch Facebook and LinkedIn for information.
We know change can be challenging but our hope is that you will embrace this new chapter for our work and stay connected through social media.
