Courage To Lead® Introductory Retreat
Courage to Lead® (CTL) Introductory Retreat for Clergy & Congregational Leaders
In A Hidden Wholeness: The Journey Toward an Undivided Life, Dr. Palmer describes the importance of creating “circles of trust,” trustworthy spaces in which honest sharing and deep learning can occur:
In this culture, we know how to create spaces that invite the intellect to show up, to argue its case, to make its point. We know how to create spaces that invite the emotions to show up, to express anger or joy. We know how to create spaces that invite the will to show up, to consolidate effort and energy around a common task. And we surely know how to create spaces that invite the ego to show up, preening itself and claiming its turf! But we seem to know very little about creating spaces that invite the soul to show up, the core of ourselves, our selfhood.
Watch as Melinda Veatch, Executive Director of Tarrant Area Community of Churches, shares her experiences with Courage & Renewal - North Texas and why she thinks this opportunity can be valuable to those in the ministry:
May 24 -26, 2010 • Still Water Lodge at Glen Lake in Glen Rose, Texas
Over the past decade under the guidance of Parker J. Palmer, highly skilled facilitators across the country have created a unique retreat-based approach to renewing personal identity, professional integrity, and vocational vitality. This approach is now being offered by the Center for Courage & Renewal to a growing number of interested clergy and congregational leaders through an initiative funded in part by the Lilly Endowment.
We invite you to participate in an introductory Courage to Lead® retreat for leaders from diverse religious communities at Still Water Lodge at Glen Lake in Glen Rose, Texas. We begin at 3:00 PM on Monday, May 24, 2010 and end at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 26, 2010. This retreat program is intended to help congregational leaders renew and sustain their own spiritual resources and to contribute to the vitality of congregational life.
In this introductory Courage to Lead® retreat, a cohort of 30 clergy and congregational leaders will gather in large-group, small-group and solitary settings, to share inner journeys via personal story-telling, poetry and teaching tales from various wisdom traditions. Guided by skilled facilitators, participants will be invited to speak honestly about their lives and work and to listen and respond to each other—and to themselves—with encouragement and compassion.
What participants from CTL® Introductory Retreat for Clergy & Congregational Leaders May 2006 had to say...
"A great few days! Wonderful discoveries!"
"The [most helpful things about this retreat] are interaction/sharing with others engaged in a similar work; the clearness committee process; the process of asking open honest questions; personal space for rest and reflection."
"It has been the most life giving, refreshing growth experience I have ever had."
